ICT & Logistics is one of the Netherlands' leading events for logistics and supply-chain technology, and it gave STULZ GROEP B.V. a fitting stage to talk about a change it had made to its shipping process. STULZ was looking for two things at once: a tidier, more reliable way to dispatch parcels, and a way to reduce the packaging waste that came with it.

The challenge

Like many operations, STULZ was printing a shipping label and a separate packing slip, then combining them by hand and enclosing the slip in a single-use plastic document pouch on the outside of each box. It worked, but it involved extra handling, extra materials, and more room for a mismatch between a label and its contents.

The solution — A5 Print & Ship with nShift Transsmart

STULZ adopted the A5 Print & Ship label, which merges the shipping label and packing slip into a single duplex-printed document. The document is generated directly from nShift Transsmart, the delivery management software already coordinating the company's carriers and shipments, and printed on a standard duplex laser printer.

By printing the packing slip onto the back of the shipping label, STULZ no longer needed the plastic pouch to carry a loose sheet. That single change removed a piece of single-use plastic from every parcel — a meaningful reduction across the volumes a group like STULZ ships.

A better process and less plastic came from the same decision — the point was to do more with fewer materials, not more of them.

The result

The packing process became simpler and steadier: one document to print and apply, with the label and its contents guaranteed to match because they came from the same sheet. Conny van Buuren of STULZ pointed to the combination of process improvement and reduced waste as the reason the solution made sense for the group.
